This is new! I’ve never blogged, I’ve never created ‘content’, but for some season this just feels right. My idea is to chart my journey towards a more sustainable relationship with my wardrobe and hopefully to contribute to your journey too!
Substack feels like the medium for this - it’s not too serious, has the right amount of content to read and consider in one go, and without the consumerism that I’m finding some other platforms exude currently!
By the way, if you’re wondering about the post title, it’s from one of my favourite characters from Luke Millington Drake. An American ‘mom’ living in the UK who finds it hard not to buy a Mercedes when the New Year hits 😆 Impulse buying at it’s best! We’ll cover that here too, find ways to avoid it, as well as being real about how we’re doing on that front.
The plan
So here’s the plan. I’m hoping this will be a weekly post, on a theme linked to this journey of ours. I’ll typically include (1) three outfits which have inspired me across the week, (2) three items which have caught my eye and (3) what I have bought (if anything) or what may get a spot on my wish list (do you keep one? It’s a great way to curb that impulse buying, but that’s another post!).
Outfits
For inspiration, I have mainly used Instagram in the past, but I’m not sure how many more GRWM reels I can take 🥴😆Having recently discovered Substack I feel as though I have found my passion again! Going through my outfit ‘saves’ this week, or I can spot a golden thread - casual, vintage, with a high end bag 😍 See below for inspiration on this theme from Charlotte Olivia, Chloe Mihalo and here at
and Linh Niller.Wishlist items
With age, I’m getting MUCH pickier about what I choose to spend my money on and what gets to stay in my wardrobe. It doesn’t always mean that I’m buying items with a higher price tag - it can mean that I’m choosing to buy a preloved cashmere jumper for the same price as a jumper in a less salubrious material from the high street! So here are the items that I’ve spotted (and in two cases, have bought to try).
Carhartt Straight Overalls - Love the idea of styling these with basically everything I already own! A ready made streetwear outfit.
Arket White Tee - One of THE top items that stylists list as a must have - the humble white tee. I love the slightly longer sleeves on this one and Arket tees are always the best quality.
And for the final item this week (I promise more colour next week!), is this St Agni bag. Love the shape and, as a minimalist, I love that this would add texture and interest to an otherwise simple outfit.
Have a good week and see you next weekend! Jenny x
Looking forward to the weekly inspiration!
So happy you linked your Substack because I can already tell I’m going to love it!
