I can feel a touch of Spring, at last! đ¸ When
shared her thoughts last week on feeling low on style and creative inspiration, I have to admit, it resonated hugely. Maybe itâs the time of year - just before the Spring starts in earnest. Maybe itâs that awkward in-between season - we are waiting for Spring collections to drop. Or maybe thereâs a general ennui with our usual pathways to inspiration. But maybe thatâs ok. Maybe we donât need a steady stream of new pieces to ogle, pine for and hunt down. The idea of including wish list pieces in the first place is not to encourage us to race out and make a purchase (remember weâre on a journey towards sustainable style here) but rather:To provide inspiration
To remind you of what you perhaps already own
And this is a really good one - to point you in the direction of âgood basicsâ which will tie together all of those âislandâ pieces, and make for a more meaningful and sustainable wardrobe. Ooh I like that!
Despite this seasonal low, and thankfully for the sake of this post đ, my wish list is looking quite healthy at the moment. Some items come, some items go, but only some get to stay. Itâs a movable feast and I find it takes a couple of weeks to decide on whether itâs a true wish piece or merely a passing crush. For true wish list pieces, they need to fit with my own personal style - my âthree wordsâ to describe my style are minimal, casual and street/ feminine (depending on the day).
How do you feel when youâre inspired? When I spot something fabulous and âwish list-ableâ, I tend to get a light feeling. I recognise this as a full body sign that itâs got the potential to be a great purchase. Does that make sense? đ Iâve definitely felt the opposite, when a purchase feels burdensome, like you need to buy something else to make it work within your wardrobe, and you know itâs not quite right. To me, this is the true test of a successful wardrobe addition. Your gut always tells the truth, just make sure youâre listening!
I thought it would be fun to show you whatâs on my wish list currently and where the inspiration to include this item came from. I know Iâd love to read a post like this! I love knowing what people like and why, and where their inspiration came from. It has also forced me to have a really good tidy up and to consider what is on there. Apologies, I had originally included an individual pic of each item but found that the post exceeded the limits! For a more in-detail look, please click on the links. So letâs dive in!
John Lewis Albie Leather Ballerina Pumps
These chocolate flats are a new add having spotted them on Lucy Alston (see below) - honestly, she has THE BEST collection of flats! While I havenât traditionally been a flats girl, I love the idea of a minimal flat with no embellishment, simply a cool silhouette. These styled with a straight leg jean đđť, as seen below on Lucy and Anoukye, two incredibly stylish ladies!
Last week I included mesh flats in the wish list line up and no one unsubscribed! đ So maybe weâre on the same journey towards acceptance of these unlikely footwear heroâs. These Massimo Dutti ones are also part of Lucyâs collection - told you it was good - and I love this red version on
and how sheâs styled them.D. Louise Full Beaded Gold Necklace
A simple beaded necklace, set against a plain tee or sweatshirt, or under a wool jacket or blazer, can look so chic. Think Daphine (I have some amazing brown beads from this brand but I canât seem to find them online!) and Lie Studio - the latter being a very cool jewellery brand created by very cool Danish twins. This wish list item was inspired by their Elly necklace, which I spied on Anna of The Wardrobe Edit, Sam Preston and Michelle Lin and is unfortunately out of my budget for the foreseeable. This one looks like a really good alternative though đđť
Adidas Handball Spezial Trainers
These are top of the list - the white leather version of the Handball Spezial. They look to be THE perfect summer trainer - slim, low profile, white and leather - which is weirdly missing from my wardrobe. This wish list item was inspired by, well me actually - I love my black suede ones - âthey fitted right inâ - so I just know Iâll love these.
This is an ode to the perfect mid grey 100% cashmere jumper - I know, niche! I love a grey jumper or sweatshirt, as much as the rest of us, and some might say I have too many⌠but I donât have this iteration! Iâm so inspired by how Anna of
styles her crew necks with straight leg jeans, a few fabulous accessories, and cool boots or flats, and whips up an insanely good outfit! This is definitely one Iâll be buying preloved and will be searching under both menâs and womenâs. If youâre thinking of doing the same, I would say donât be put off by bobbling - this is the gadget for the job.Iâm mildly obsessed with preloved Celine bags. Specifically the Celine Ava (see Charlotte Olivia below), the more attainable Celine phone bag (see Vic below), and my own vintage tote, found on Vestiaire Collective recently (and pictured below). Thereâs just something so innately feminine about them, most are unadorned by ostentatious branding (Iâm not keen on the ones with the gold branded hardware), and they are just super classy. I love how Charlotte and Vic style these bags with an otherwise super casual look, aka high-low dressing đđť. Building a wardrobe of classics pieces, such as these, can offer a more sustainable approach to style, which Iâm here for!
This bag has been on my wish list for years! Itâs a vintage piece, but still pretty pricey and the reason why it hasnât made it off my wish list and into my wardrobe, yet. So chic, so classic and so simple. The ultimate black shoulder clasp bag, IMO. See inspiration below from Lucy, Lindsey Holland and Louise Byrne.
And then the best of the rest. These are items which Iâve shared with you on previous posts, but hereâs a quick run down:
Sezane Milo bag - this is such a classic shape and size bag, and I love this rich natural heritage colour - not tan and not burgundy, just the perfect in-between. See Anna, Maria and Natalie below with theirs.
Sold.Out NYC Iconically Perfect Tee - the âperfectâ white tee, by the looks and sounds of it, and a foundational wardrobe building block.
Vincent James V Neck Tank - this is so simple but the neckline and the low back are so sexy! I spotted this on Natalieâs feed as part of her ultimate packing list along with her dreamy Citizens of Humanity Marcelle cargos (more on those shortly!).
Clare V Rope Bag - itâs still on the list! This is also a Natalie find - sheâs just so inspiring! It may end up being this specific bag or just a similar style - the remit is âblack summer tote with textureâ. Specific enough? đ
For the eagle eyed amongst you, you may have noticed that the Citizens of Humanity Marcelle cargos have left my wish listâŚ.and thatâs because the goods have been secured!! In the slightly precarious Matches sale (Iâm saying that as theyâre in administration and there was a spell of not accepting returning or giving refunds, but think itâs resolved now), but I knew my size and that they would work, having used the âbuy to tryâ technique elsewhere beforehand đ¤Ť. The reason I invested in these is that Iâve always struggled with summer trousers - Iâm not keen on drawstring waists or pattern - and these, teamed with a simple vest and Havaianas or Ancient Greek Sandals, will make for an instant simple and stylish outfit. I will love them for a very long time.
Well, that turned into a bit of a bumper post! Hopefully enough of an excuse for a few extra minutes in bed on Sunday morning! I do plan to share my complete Indyx wish list with you, so watch out for that note (and subscribe to be notified). Otherwise I hope youâve a lovely Easter and to see you next weekend, Jenny x
Good eye on the Celine bags !
Not me scrolling and seeing my face!! Ha! I think youâve got some great pieces on your wishlist there x
